No power - stumped

Postby RP1 » Tue Jul 19, 2016 1:23 pm

2006 T220 Tdi (75)

Van started losing power, particularly uphill, in 3rd/4th a few weeks back. Was getting worse so took it into the garage.
They are getting no fault codes and so far the garage has tried the following -

Fitted new EGR valve and inlet manifold (old one very congested)
Checked exhaust system
Checked turbo

Problem is still there. Next suggestion is to either check injectors and /or air intake.
Does anyone have any ideas? The lack of diagnostics suggest maybe a mechanical fault?

Any suggestions much appreciated!

what code reader are they using?.........does the wastegate arm move and do the bellows expand when u rev it, has it been serviced and new oem filters used, i'd be checking the cat and would knock the guts out of it,helps the turbo spool up quicker, would think any problem with injectors /pump would show a code.........let us know how u get on

Thanks G-man, have will check those. He checked the cat already, also tried new filter this morning. With no codes it's a guessing game and looking at the possible expense I'm thinking maybe I'll get another van....

Measure boost to check if turbo is working.. if manifold was choked up the the rubber elbow that leads to the boost sensor ( MAP sensor) may be blocked also. The thin plastic pipe feeding boost sensor can can split :)

I had the same symptoms with a bad boost sensor. Other members have also had cracked sensor tubing.

Yeah not that rare :) should be around 0.7 bar fully on the gas...

I had one with map sensor stuck reading high, showing something like 3.5 bar boost constantly...

Van was so underpowered it was undriveable, even slow to rev up when stood.
