Brake servo replacement

Postby JumpingJacks » Sat Jan 07, 2017 6:16 pm

First post in 2017 so happy new year everyone :D

Ok so driving home from work last week and having just pulled off the A40 I had no brakes and the pedal has gone hard. I took the van to a local garage who diagnosed he problem as a broken spring in the brake servo of which the cost to supply and fit (main dealer part only) is £600 !

I have had a new clutch fitted 2 months ago and ever since I've had a vibration when the vans underload. The clutch does not slip so I'm guessing the vibrations not clutch related.

Has anyone got any ideas if the garage may have damaged something On the drive shaft area which is causing the vibration?

Also has anyone had a servo failure as mines just covered 50000 miles which seems too soon for the servo to fail through normal wear and tear

Any advise should be hugely appricated as Ive booked the van in with ford for a second opinion

Thanks guys

Update:

So luckily I went for the second opinion and had the van it at Fords today and they diagnosed the Hard Pedal as a Vacuum Pump failure. Cost of replacement from Ford for replacement and fitting is £680 including vat.

Never thought ild say it but I'm going to have to trust Ford. I'm gonna to go with there diagnoses of a faulty Vacuum Pump as opposed to the local garages advise.

I looks like i can get Vacuum Pump from euro€ car parts for around £200 and ive found a step by step guide on here from Paul2012 on how to replace the part so I'm going to have ago myself. I'll let yo all know how it goes :D

Ok brakes are now fixed. I bought the vacuum pump from eurocaarparts for £150 and fitted it myself following a guide by Paul2012 which I couldn't have done without. I did end up removing the oil seperator too to give me better access to the bottom bolt on the vacuum pump as it hard to get to.

Now I can put the money I saved by doing it myself towards getting my minder driveshaft looked at

I have just come across this thread! Mine decided to loose its brakes this morning as I pulled into the carpark at work! Would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction of Paul2012's DIY guide please? Maybe Paul himself even? I won't even entertain the idea of going to Frauds for a fix!
