..did that a few weeks ago, a easy mod. The steering wheel is comming off without force needed, no splines bud a kind of HEX design and a straight fit. I used my own airbag on the Fiesta ST steering wheel. The only remark is that it's not that much thigger than the original plastic one. Bud the leather feel and looks is so much better, a definite plus.

trickiest bit is getting airbag off. disconnect battery for 30 mins before tackling the job.

turn wheel 90 degrees from normal and there will be a hole behind what was the 3 o clock and 9 o clock positions, on the back of the wheel. access is better from the top (12 o clock)position. there is a large spring clip holding the airbag on. you just need to lever it off it's clip, sounds easy right. took me 30 mins to get mine off. once first clip is free it's pretty easy. rotate wheel 180 and do other clip. before removing the wheel with airbag off, straighten back to normal!

remove wheel, fit new one and fit old airbag to new wheel.

did it on my van at xmas and they are much nicer wheel. fiesta ST leather.

there are youtube vids showing you how to access the spring.

good luck

Done it..... fiddling abart like some spotty yoof 1st go in a girls knickers..... that youtube vid goes from poking stick in back to airbag coming off.... I made a brew and drank inbetween :) helped by looking at the new wheel :)
Oh... dint bother disconnecting battery, that's for pussies.... though would help stopping the fookin horn blurting out as you try to get it off :)
