Chain or wet belt help

Postby thedmc1 » Tue Apr 04, 2017 6:48 am

Having just bought a replacement engine for my 2010 connect after wet belt failure, I ended up with a Ford Focus kkda engine 2007
Problem is I got this delivered from a breakers who insist on not giving me the registration due to it been out of an insurance right off and say they can't give the details out, now I'm stuck wondering if the engine had a wet belt or a chain,
Is there any way of knowing without pulling it apart?
I have searched for solutions but can't see any on here, I have the engine number but ford say they can't tell without the reg
Engine number is KKDA 7C37633M

Hi,

Just out of curiosity, what was your mileage when the belt went?

The belt on my 2010 has just gone as well at 115,000 miles.

Thanks.

The tensioners are different. If you take out the tensioner, the tip of the plunger will be flat on the wet belt. The motor using the chain has a convex (domed) head.

Watch this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l6-JUImJQw

The tensioner is being removed at 10:00 into the vid. It sits at the back of the engine block just behind the waterpump. When it has been withdrawn, the end of the tensioner bolt will tell you whether you have a wetbelt or chain.

So I identified I have a chain on the kkda engine I bought so I'm happy now knowing I don't have a crap wet belt to replace, vans finally going in to have engine installed next week, just want to check, my original rwpa engine has a solid fly wheel and I see the focus engine I bought has a dmf, I take it that needs to be removed and I will keep my original set up that I currently have on my connect?

Thanks I was reading about Focus owners last night looking at doing a solid flywheel conversion and being advised against it, just wondered why they have problems with it in a focus but then it's fine in the connect
Thanks

New problem
Had engine fitted today, kkda
The turbo unit was fitted off my 110hp van onto the engine which then meant the wire harness had to be swapped as my turbo had an electronic wastegate, problem now is when the lower belt snapped the turbo was starved of oil now resulting in me needing to replace the turbo unit now,
Question is are all the turbos different? Or can I just buy a used one off eBay that has an electronic wastegate perhaps off a mondeo or kkda focus?

Because the car has more torque and power , all the mk2 focus's are 115hp also friction plate is bigger ,
