Hi I have a 05 swb connect that I have just brought. It Will only start with a bump start and not with the key. The engine turns over fine but just will not start, has anyone had this problem

I'd be looking at the fuel filter.
If it's never been changed they can get blocked and restrict the flow of fuel so there's not enough pressure when cranking.
Get yourself a new filter, I'd recommend a Bosch unit from Euro Car Parts.
Remove the old filter then fit the new one. Before connecting the pipes get a small funnel and fill the new filter to the brim with diesel until it's visible in all the filter ports.
Once that's done refit the pipes and crank it over - hopefully it will then start.
If it does start run it at fast idle for a couple of minutes to purge any air in the fuel system.

Just to add does the red led go out on dash when ignition is turned on or does it flash ?

Thanks for the replies,
The red light goes out on the dash, and doesn't flash.
I will change the fuel filter hopefully tomorrow, the connect also has a issue with the coil light flashing on the dash followed by loss of power until its restarted i wonder now if they are related. also yesterday the connect starter from the key but only with the help of easystart.

You may have a problem with the injectors leaking back too much causing insufficient pressure when cranking.
I'd do a leak off check as well as replacing the fuel filter.

OK thought i would give a update.
My connect was plugged into a diagnostic machine but brought up conflicting codes, low fuel pressure, high fuel pressure and so on. So all fault codes was deleted and the van was driven up the road but still there were to many codes.
I then chose to put the connect into a diesel specialist where there diagnostic machine brought up a fault code stating it was the fuel injectors. Due to the misleading nature of the limp mode issues i asked them to remove the injectors to confirm, which they did.
All 4 injectors was changed and im pleased to report the van now starts on the key and drives well
