Another Code 23 Problem.........

Postby James1979 » Fri Jun 16, 2017 11:33 pm

I have a Connect on a 54 plate with the Endura engine.

I had an issue were it wouldnt start but would crank. gives blink 23 and b2139.

Had real trouble getting advice or getting anyone to look at it. On the advice of one person who seemed the most knowledgeable I replaced the ECU with a known good one from another vehicle. This was:
key and barrel
Transducer ring
PATS Module
Speedo Head
ECU
Airbag ECU

I am still getting the damn 23 code and it wont fire :/

Does anyone have any ideas please????

Did you replace the pump, or the pump EDU :?:

Hi

Thanks for the reply. No I didnt, that was the next thing to look at. Can I use any fuel pump or does it need to be coded?

Hadnt given the edu any thought if im honest. Is that built into the pump?

Regards

I thought the actual immobiliser was built into the pump EDU on the VP30 pump, but in any case, if you've replaced all of those above parts, and not recoded, then surely it won't start anyway :?

Not sure....

I was told it should be plug and play but no one knew for sure or would give a definite answer.

Local auto electricians wont touch it, just say take it to fords :/

Apparently the fuel pumps are coded to the ECU on the TDCI not the DI, which I have so at least thats one problem I dont have to worry about!

Still getting the code 23. It wil run for a few seconds on easy start before it dies. everything is bled up so I dont think its an issue with air.

Does any body have any ideas please?!?

its getting close to going on ebay spares or repairs!

Err, no, 'tis the other way around :?

Injectors are coded on the TDCi, pump is coded in the TDDi :)

Thanks for the quick reply!

Sounds like Ive been misled!! :/

I assume recoding the pump is a job for a dealer? As the van doesnt run I've no way of getting it anywhere and not sure a mobile guy could do it?

It doesn't have to go to main dealer, any mechanic with the correct equipment can code it
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

and so the saga rumbles on.............!!

I have fitted an ECU kit, its then gone into Ford to have the fuel pump coded to the ECU.

Picked it up last Friday evening, ran fine on the way home. Drove it about 20 miles the next day, didnt seem that responsive but thought it was either down to the software update at Ford, or the ECU kit donor was ex BT and may have had a speed limiter (not sure) so I wondered if the poor performance was that.

Turned it off, left it about an hour. Went to drive home and it had immobilised itself again - blink code 23, nothing shown on code reader. Called recovery and got it home.

Today I have picked up the fuel pump from the donor van which should still be coded to the ECU? I may be wrong about this?? Ive not fitted the pump, but plugged it into the loom to try it and no difference - still showing blink 23. I dont really want to spend another £100 having it coded at fords for it to not be the fuel pump and have to pump yet more money into this van!!

so...........

Does anyone have any ideas, Please!!

Or, does anyone know a mobile mechanice near Lowestoft who answers their phone and / or can work on Fords?!?
Or, anyone near Lowestoft who may want to buy a connect thats immobilised so I can replace it with something more reliable ?!?!?

\if anyone can shed any light on this I'd be really grateful!

Re: Another Code 23 Problem......... FIXED!!

Postby James1979 » Mon Jul 31, 2017 10:12 pm

Solved the problem, after a couple of months of local guys not having a clue and Ford main dealer not really knowing either, just wanting to take my money..............

Sold it for scrap and bought a Daily. Much better bit of kit all round and build quality is lots better.

Problem solved :)
