Adding new keys

Postby furiousjammin » Wed Aug 16, 2017 4:31 pm

Hi all

Decided to stop lurking, and join the forum. :D

Purchased a 53 plate Transit Connect last week. 147k miles, 1.8TDci 90ps T200 version.

When purchased, it came with one aftermarket (non remote) key, which did the doors and the locks, and came with one well worn and rounded off original Ford key (non remote). The worn key will eventually lock/unlock the van and start the igntion with some playing about, but wanting some spare keys i have had two new three-button remote keys cut.

Heres the problem... I cannot for th elife of me get the van into the mode where i can add new keys (transmitter sync?) or the mode that lets me program new key fobs.

In theory i should be able to sync new key transponders, as i have two working keys. But of course they may be clone keys and do not count as the needed two seperate keys. So that could be the reason i cannot get into the sync mode for new keys.

But for the mode to program new key fobs, you only need one key. And i still cannot get it into the sync mode. I have tried the 8 times ignition switching from 0 to II, nothing happens. No beep, no flash, the locks dont cycle. Nothing at all. I have tried it 8 times in 10 seconds, 4 times in 5 seconds, ive tried it with door open and closed, with seatbelt on and off and tried it standing on my head, Nothing.

Someone please tell me they have had this trouble before and know exactly what the issue is.

Thanks in advance guys.

The van may not be equipped for remote central locking, which is maybe why you didn't get a remote locking fob. You can swap out the central locking module for one with remote locking, Paul2012 has made a post on here about doing it.
If you don't have 2 original, different, keys, you won't get the van to initialise new keys :(

Thanks Altransit. I found a post on here last night about the central locking module. It never occured to me that there were different modules. I have checked and indeed, mine is the CL DI version with no RC. So i have purchased a used module from eBay and will swap that in at the weekend and try adding the remote fobs again. That should sort that issue.

Im just looking around for tools that let you clone the ID4D60 transponder chips. If i cant program new keys due to only having cloned keys, i will try and make lots of clones instead. So far ive found a "Magic Wand" tool that says it can clone ID:4D 60 chips so that should do the job. Hopefully should let me create enough spares to offset the speed the Mrs loses them lol.

How can you tell what modual you have?
Ive also just purchased a connect but the t220 with only one blue key that does the central locking and ignition.

If the C/L module doesn't have 'RC' printed on it, then it doesn't have remote locking

 Not stupid if you don't know, as I don't either   I've never needed to look :(

I would guess it's behind the glovebox, but if you look up Paul2012's post it should pinpoint it

Have a look on the Ford etis site and look up your van. It should say something like "With Door Entry Remote Control Unit" if you expand the minor features section. To get into etis, go to http://www.etis.ford.com/ and click on vehicle at the top, then type in your reg number and click search.
