How many miles is a realistic life?

Postby HST Doctor » Sat Aug 26, 2017 12:26 am

As the title really, I have a 08 plate 110PS 230. It has 79500 miles on the clock. I am putting it in for a cambelt change (and aux belt change) next week, I change the oil and filter, fuel and air filters regularly.
I have recently changed jobs and now have a commute of approx 25K a year. Can't make up my mind whether to keep this one and run it into the ground or get rid and buy a really low mileage one.

What sort of miles should I expect to do before major issues start cropping up?

keep it serviced

and it will run for another 100,000

being an 08 plate am sure it has the wet belt bollocks so that is a must to change 8)

and ive seen these do over 250,000 without problems

I have a 2006 (Euro 4) 75 Tdci, purchased it at 130k without any history around 2.5 yrs ago.

It's now approaching 168k without any major issues - just an alternator, aux belt tensioner & general servicing.

My 2004 1.8 Connect when I got it in 2010 had 150,000 on the clock, I removed the sump and gave it a really good clean and since that time only use fully synthetic Oil new clutch at 190,000 and cam belt's at 50,000

just gone through 255,000 this weekend and still purrs like a pussy cat, and engine oil is relatively clean
I wouldn't be without it !

My 05 is showing 224k,and I am taking it to Portugal next week!

It seems to keep it's oil reasonably clean, and I treated it to a wheel refurb, new front brakes and a set of tyres.

:D
'05 Transit Connect T230 LX TDCi Engine buggered in Spain, replaced with a T200 base 12 plate in white which also buggered it's engine in Spain!
2nd Connect had breakdown insurance and an engine swap, see how long it lasts.....

My 2006 TDDi required a pump refurb at 210,000 km and a couple of steering racks over the lifetime. Was in perfect working order when I sold it last year. Did not consume a drop of oil per change interval at 300,000 km.

2006 LWB High top TDDi now got 260k on the clock.
We had a new clutch at approx 120k. Still got original battery!

Change the oil & filter regularly and no real problems with engine.

One thing we wished we had done is clean under the sills more regularly as
we have had to have a bit of welding done in the usual transit places on the sill.

Sorry, forgot about gearbox replacement. Did not fail but service reported metallic hue in old oil so I replaced it with one from Focus before it started giving me problems.
