Fuse Box

Postby PaulG1956 » Mon Sep 18, 2017 4:51 pm

Hi

Here's hoping someone will help me. I just recently bought a 2015 Transit Connect 240 limited LWB van. I've also just ordered from Amazon a dash cam that I am going to hard wire in but for the life of me I can't find the fuse box in the cab. I've read that it's behind the glove box but I've pulled the glove box door down as far as it will go and still no fuses. Any help would be much appreciated.

you need to pull the glove box right out... the draw but that folds down come right off

if you open it, look at the top left and top right edges where it catches, you can pop those out

just to be more complicated... there's another fuse box behind the fuse box! so if you can't see the fuse you need the fuse box you're looking at folds down (same thing, catch in top right and top left) and then there's another fuse box behind

(I guess technically it's not another fuse box, it's all one big fuse box... but... you know what I mean)

but, it's probably easier just to wire it to either the radio or cigaret lighter ? - dash cam will use naff all power anyway

cigarette lighters are always powered, with the radio you have the choice of always powered or only powered from ignition live

Thanks for the reply. I'll have another look tomorrow but I've already had the glove box open and dropped the door down as far as I thought possible by squeezing the box in and popping the catches, but if the fuse box is behind there I'll have another go.

Where would I start on wiring it to the radio or cigarette lighter?

for cigaret lighter... just run your new wire to behind the cigarette lighter and join your new wires to the cigarette lighter ones

you only need to take power from the radio if you need it to turn on and off with the ignition (which I guess you might?) - then just pop the radio out (you'll need the special radio pulling pins... 99p on ebay) run your new wire behind the radio and join it to the ignition live on the back of there

I'm not sure which wire it is off the top of my head, I've always checked with a meter to find it... but someone will probably be along in a min and tell you which wire it is

wait....

2015 transit is a mk8

I've been talking about the fuse box for a mk7

ciggy lighter and radio comments still stand - but I'm probably wrong about the fuse box, I've never had a mk8

Also what are peoples opinion on wiring so it is live all the time or live when ignition is on. I hate having to make decisions, I generally make the wrong one.

If you have it live all the time, it will kill your battery if you don't use the van for a few days. Mine has a manual switch so that I can leave it on if its parked up for a few hours, but gets turned off when parked on my drive. The only problem is forgetting to turn it off when not using the van.

The camera in my 2012 Focus is turned off by the BCM after a period of time, this is how the power sockets are wired, so maybe your Connect is the same :?:

Thanks for your replies.

I think the fuse box is located under the glove box deep in the passenger footwell. I don't know how I'll be able to get to it but I'll have a look tomorrow. I think I'll be laying on me back in the footwell. Happy days. HaHa
