When is a 'car tyre' also a van tyre?

Postby T i m » Sun Oct 08, 2017 8:51 pm

Hi all,

Not wanting to open another tyre tread, I just wanted to check that as far as the Connect (07 /T220) was concerned, as long as the right load index tyres (eg, 91/95 etc) were fitted, they are appropriate please?

I believe because of the class of the Connect they don't have to be up to any specific load carrying capacity, as long as they are never overloaded etc ... but are we generally running the same spec tyre as an MPV or should they still be van specific in some way please?

Does the 'XL' marking you see on some tyres make them a higher load index or have a better characteristic for our van use than their (say) 95 rating ... or does the 95 say it all?

Cheers, T i m

95+ or XL and you're good.

I was thinking on and just wanted to make sure here, you did mean a load index of >= 95 (for a T220), rather than some other variant of the 95 index that I'm not familiar? ;-)

95 and up, sorry.

EDIT: I see T220 was also available as SWB? My LWB was T220LX and it had 95 in specs.

Yeah, so I read here in another tyre thread.

My LWB was T220LX and it had 95 in specs.

Her first Connect is just a straight T220 (but high top / lwb) AFAIK

Pacing out along the wheelbase I was surprised how little difference there was between the two but the length difference might also be elsewhere?

Cheers, T i m (to all who have responded). ;-)
