Strange spring in rear door and mirror question.

Postby T i m » Thu Oct 12, 2017 2:35 pm

Hi all,

Whilst helping daughter with some work in the o/s rear door on her 07 T220 Connect, we found a spring that was riveted the door at one end but just floating at the other?

We pulled the spring out for the photo but it just seemed to float inside the door (it was firmly riveted at the door end).

It was difficult to see if the other end had broken off or was supposed to be like it, so can anyone shed any light please?

Also, are there any tricks re replacing the little lower mirror sections please as it didn't look like it could just be slipped into place as it was?

Cheers, T i m

<Just checked with daughter> No, the handle may not go back in fully on it's own but that is the same with her other van and because they both have extra slamlocks that release the door when turned (if previously released by the fob), the handle isn't really used to unlatch anything as such I don't think?

So could that be the handle return spring and it's broken off where it joins the handle somewhere?

Re. the blind spot mirror.
I did mine by removing and stripping the mirror down. It was a total PITA job.

Ah, ok, thanks. At least we know we weren't missing something obvious. ;-)

Checking the handle myself it seems to work (return) ok so we just poked the spring out of the way and stuck the pocket / card back in.

On that, it looked like it originally had something over the surface at the lower 2/3rds, possibly a net?

If not I assume we would need to fabricate something or find a good one in a breakers?
