DPF fault code issue P2463 and P242F

Postby mk1wideboy » Sat Oct 14, 2017 6:18 pm

Hi.

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on what may be causing a DPF fault on a 2012 1.8 transit connect?

Read fault codes and got P2463 DPF soot accumulated (EML on), and P242F DPF filter restriction - ash accumulation (orange cog with exclamation mark in the middle dash light, and "engine malfunction" displayed on dash). Cleared fault codes and got the P2463 come up about 20 seconds later. Ran a regen through the diagnostics. It completed the regen (about 30 minutes) but the P2463 fault code still wouldn't clear. I have checked the connections and wiring at the exhaust gas temperature, and pressure sensor multiplugs, and all seems fine. I also get readings on live data from these. I've also removed the DPF and check the sensor pipes for blockages. The DPF itself didn't seem all that dirty (all the little holes in the cartridge were visable) but maybe it's impossible to tell by looking.

It wasn't until I had done all this and tried ereasing the fault code again that I noticed that it was clearing, then coming back up again about 20 seconds later without the engine running. Surely the engine whould have to be running to detect a proper blockage. This leads me to think that the sensor is at fault. Has anyone with more knowledge on DPF systems have any suggestions?

The P242F fault code only comes on after I drive the van for about 15 minutes. It then goes into limp mode.

you need to tell the ecu

that you had a brand new one

even thow you haven't replaced it but done all the regens cleans etc

it will not clear the code until the ecu is told :(

Hi Karl

I tried that with no success. Can't remember the exact wording, but there were two options to do with resetting the DPF values. Both options said reset successful, but the P2463 keeps coming back. I find it weird that it comes back even though the van isn't running. Surely if it was a blocked DPF, and the fault codes were erased with the engine switched off, the fault code shouldn't appear until the engine was running.

Does anyone know what the DPF differential pressure readings (in kPa) should be for a good non blocked DPF?

P242F - Possible causes for this DTC:

1. Excessive ash accumulation in the DPF
2. Clogged DPF pressure sensor hoses
3. Faulty DPF pressure sensor
4. Open or shorted wiring in the DPF pressure sensor circuit
5. DPF regeneration has not been completed.
6. Overuse of fuel system additives

Ash accumulation is a side effect of DPF filtration and completed regeneration cycles :!: :!:
Ash accumulates near the rear of DPF filtration element

If all wiring/sensor etc are all fine. Then Fault will be due to "Ash accumulation". To rectify this issue check to see if ash can be removed by a specialist DPF cleaning firm.
Or fit a new DPF filter. Prices have started to fall dramatically now....

Hi paul

I had same problem with my 2012 connect 1.8tdci, i put a new dpf filter & vapour sensor, the eml & p2463 have gone, but now the cog light comes on there is no loss of power no limp mode, code reader comes up with egr problem now

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

The issue I had turned out to be a blocked vaporiser. It would go through the forced regen process, but wasn't achieving anything due to the DPF not getting hot enough. I removed the vaporiser, cleaned it out, installed everything, forced regen, and that sorted it. As for your EGR problem, I can't shed much light on this.

Hi
Thanks for the reply mine is a strange one, my vapouriser plug was naffed blocked, so put new plug on tried the regen and it was having none of it so the mechanic checked the dpf and it was 89% choked up so i bought a new dpf, all was fine eml off codes gone, van running smooth no issues on the way home from garage, parked up for 15 mins went back out for a drive and on start up the orange cog light came on and display saying engine malfunction, went back to garage they turned cog light out everything good parked up at home went to work next day and hey ho on start up cog light comes back on   but the van is running mint, went back to garage van on diagnostics and now coming up with egr fault, im at the end of my tether with this lol

Cheers
