Hill start Assist

Postby ff1976 » Tue Oct 24, 2017 11:36 pm

Hi, I've searched the forum for answers but to no avail,

I recently upgraded from my 06 plate tddi Connect to a 10 plate tdci, I was wondering if anyone here has had any issues with 'Hill Start Assist', When I first mentioned it to a local mechanic I thought he was joking having it fitted to a little Connect.

Anyway my problem is even on the flat I sometimes struggle to set off due to this, almost as though a caliper is sticking, If for example parking in a space at the side of the road, pull up and start to reverse in and as manovering the van when letting off the footbrake it often takes a couple of seconds before it will set off, If it is the hillstart function is there a sensor as surely it should only work on an incline, not on the flat! Is there any way of switching it off altogether as I've never had to use such in all my years of driving different vehicles varying from cars to Hgv's.

Thank you.

We had it on a11 plate mk7 at work and turned it off by holding down the pedals down just like resetting the service light if you have the operators hand book it’s in there nobody at work liked it seemed s@@t to reverse and easy to stall even on the flat

On my 2010 TDCi you can turn it off using the menu. It's under Vehicle Settings.

As said, in the menu under settings. However although mine works as it should, it is quite sensitive and will even operate at the top of my drive.

Thanks for all the replies, I've been through the menu and managed to disable it, phew!
For me it wasn't something I liked, I like ME to be in control of the vehicle for things like that!

I had the same problem with a 2012 75 SWB model I drove for my last job. It was really unsuitable. They bought it brand new, and the hill start mode was an embarrassment! Stalling at every slight incline I stopped on. It was worse when the van was loaded up with 200-300 KG's + of refrigerant gas, as the engine was so pathetically under-powered. And with the small turbo, and hill start 'assist' coupled together, it was downright dangerous. As soon as i had a mess about, and found that it could be turned off, it was!
I agree with what you say about 'ME' being in control! If I drive a vehicle with auto this, and auto that, I have to spend 10 mins turning it all off!.... I want to drive!

Have you removed the power steering, brake servo, and synchromesh as well ?

I know what you mean though, modern vehicles have gone a bit too far.
