Best EGR Cleaner & methods

Postby Kenton » Thu Nov 02, 2017 12:13 pm

Hi guys, I am looking for some advice. Which EGR cleaner to use? - can anyone recommend a particular one? Or are all much of a muchness? Also, as my van is an 05(54 plate) TDCI 90, the EGR does not come off, or open (all one part of the inlet manifold). Any opinions / recommendations / methods for best cleaning results would be very welcome. This is one of the last things on my list of things to do since I've had the van. I have looked into just replacing the whole inlet manifold / EGR assembly, but they are a bit pricey to say the least, and don't wanna trust a used one to be any cleaner than mine!
Do any of the slightly later inlets fit / work with this engine?

Cheers all for any pointers

take turbo off and remove ex manifold, take off inlet manifold and clean with brake/carb cleaner, new gaskets if requ, then blank off the egr to help keep it cleaner, later model inlets are different

Cheers G, I was ready to admit that the only proper way to do this would be to remove the inlet manifold. I like to do things properly, but I need to get some garage time to get this done as i have a sloping driveway, so not a home job!
I will be blanking the EGR, but which one do i need for my engine? (54' plate 2005 T230 LWB 90 TDCI) Any idea? I have been told by some i need a plate with a hole in it for the ECU to recognise that the valve is there with a small amount of exhaust coming through, and by some, to buy one with no hole....

Many thanks again G.
