Mechanic says the fuel pump might need replacing?!

Postby JayKay3000 » Sat Nov 11, 2017 10:22 pm

Hi all

So when I had my fuel filter changed on my 05 1.8 tdci connect the mechanics thought that the next issue could be its fuel pump.

Fuel pump looks like an expensive part!

Anyone know common symptoms of one failing?

I'm getting bucking at low rpms when cold and a bit when warm and this sort of shivering effect when it's cold as the engine tries to get the correct fuel air mixture. You can fix it by getting the engine over 2k rpm even when cold, but as soon (especially when cold) you drop below 2k rpm the engine can't hold a constant rpm for longer than some seconds.

Just a bit concerned about changing the fuel pump if it could be un-related as they said the egr valve is fine. Just so weird as over 2k rpm the engine is almost fine.

Got a new air filter on order as the current one looks a bit yucky. Could probably use a new oil filter, give it some fresh oil. They said the egr valve is OK.

Would like to actually drive this thing for one week without any engine faults.

They said it

"MIGHT"

need changing, I'd take it somewhere who know what they are doing, with the correct equipment theses are a quite simple to diagnose, worth paying the extra for a proper diagnosis than throwing parts on it and hoping
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:
