2010 connect - noise between 1700 - 200 rpm

Postby Lyons » Wed Nov 29, 2017 12:40 pm

Firstly, it's not gearbox thrash... Haha

I've had a recon box, clutch kit, drive shafts, carrier bearing, drop links, ARB bushes, suspension mounts, gearbox and engine mounts, cam belt, wet belt all changed and wheel bearings checked, oh and all the pipes etc to the egr, turbo etc etc

The place that fitted the new box had it for a week trying to find out the cause of the noise and said it's coming from the timing case / wet belt area, so it's back in the garage that fitted said belts...

The aux belt (I think) whines when the van is cold but goes away once warm.

The noise is strictly limited to 1700-200 rpm only and she's quiet and smooth when driving the rest of the time.

Has anyone had an experience of this before or can point me in the possible right direction?

Cheers guys

Only noise I get is from the advanced timing when it's cold at these rpms on an 05, but I don't think yours is that.

Yea I've been told the noise is coming from the chain case, so cam or wet belt area - or possibly (and less likely imo) the CAT - got it booked in for a pressure test next week and gonna go from there.

If it was a tensioner would that be more likely to rear its head when the engine is under load?

Haha sorry my bad spelling...

It's a strange one this but I've been living with it for a spell till I get some cash together...

Just under 2000rpm in 3rd/4th predominantly (but not exclusively) on light acceleration I'll get a second of hesitation followed by the (now familiar) whoosh from 1800 up to just over 2000rpm.... I think I've noticed some flat spots throughout the rev range if I floor it... But The van starts on the button and runs absolutely fine, quiet both driving and at tick over and at any rpm other than 1800/2000, just this constant issue arises around the 1800/2000 rpm mark when the turbo kicks in... Not while stationery tho... So makes me wonder is it the turbo?

I have no emls, the egr is blanked off with a solid plate, clutch and box are new and reconditioned respectively, it's had everything that usually points to this issue, took the heat shields off the zorst jic, inspected all pipes as best as possible.

So I'm left wondering if it's something turbo and or injector and or dpf and or fuel pump related...

I have something similar is it a vibration also.
I would really like someone to drive mine but unsure who I can trust. Based on Hampshire had a full service and new clutch in the last month.
1800 to 2000 rpm when accelerating from 45 thru to 55 ish I mainly do long runs it's mot hammered 34k on the clock. Sounds dreadful but I have no idea. Good look and I'll follow this hoping you get it sorted. Thanks Scott
