Help please

2004 connect starts on the button I then drive a few miles and stop turn it off go back a couple of minutes later and starts again on the button but if you touch the accelerator it dies so I have to sit there for a bit and just keep starting it until it works and then it’s fine . Any ideas ? It’s driving me crazy when I’m sat on a garage forecourt semi broken down waiting for it to work.
