[FIXED] - Black and white smoke!

Postby JayKay3000 » Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:28 am

Hi Guys.

Black smoke fixed:

Changed clogged fuel filter £40 total from garage
Changed dirty air cleaner £5 from ebay and fitted myself.

White smoke and most of the bucking

Buy 'premium' diesel and mix with red X for diesels. £60 for a tank, £5 for the red X and use half a medium bottle for a tank.
Find the quietest bit of motorway and run the engine past 3krpm for 140 miles
Repeat for another 140 miles.

----

I tried to get garage to re-code the injectors, but they'd have none of it and I didn't want to spend another £500 to buy and fit injectors on a guess and I reasoned that if the fuel pump was an issue there would be other symptoms. Pretty much lost my faith in garages at this point.

Anyway - No more white smoke or smoke cloud at night, some minor bucking if it runs below 2k rpm when it's cold, but picks up better and feels generally snappier now.

----

I had a look over the topics and cheers for the help! Injectors were pointed out months ago  and I had a feeling when I got it there was an issue with them. Will see how it goes.

Nah, literally ran red x and premium diesel through the system for 280 miles and sorted it.

After spending 1 and a half years fixing this junk on a super-tight budget I was pretty happy that I finally managed to cure most of engine running issues. Dunno if any of that advice will be any use. Could use a new set of injectors, but honestly not bad enough to need it and I'm trying to save for something better.

you done well mate as these are known for injector faults

these have the Delphi system and from experience after around 130,000, poor servicing and low quality fuel filters they pack up.

i have one sat in Ireland at the minute (cavan) and it wont start well it will with the dreaded sniff then it wont start again after being switch off :( :( and has all the tell tale signs of injectors

but their is no one to bring it back here for me :( :(

Shame about the van being stuck in ireland. The injectors do seem to be an issue from various sources and. I hope mine makes it to 130k
