Styling advice please... Indicators, Gear Knob and Gaitor.

Postby Rossco701 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 12:43 pm

Morning Gents, Happy New Year to you all. I am looking on changing my indicators as there looking a little yellow, I would like to keep the standard round ones. I would also like to replace the Gear Knob and Gaitor. Can anyone tell me if the eBay copies are any good or shall I stick to genuine Ford ones. Thanks Ross

Hi Ross, this is the one i purchased:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVR-STITCH- ... T0vWH4_nDg

It is exactly the same one as in the picture. You will however need to remove the old gator which is melted into place, then do the same but in reverse with the new gator. The handbrake gator is the same story. It takes a bit of messing around with, but looks great in the end! These are real leather, and i have had mine fitted for a couple of years now, and there is no sign of any faults developing. Very well made for the money!

Side repeaters are very easy to find on ebay, even the genuine Ford ones are on there at a good price- and come with bulbs!

Gear knob choice is varied, but the connect one screws on so one from a fiesta Zetec S, or ST will go straight on as they are the same knob. (mine were from a 2006 Zetec S)

You didnt say what reg your van is, i am basing all this on what i have done to mine which is a '54 (05) plate.

Hope this helps mate.

No worries, i used a soldering iron with a large tip to gently melt the plastic that retains the old gator, then used some scrap thin bits of plastic to pop over the tops of the holes in the leather to 'rivet' it in place by melting and mixing the two plastics together. From what i remember of the 2012 connect i drove at a job, the gator will be held on the same way, but the newer surround will detach differently than mine. Check you get the correct one for your year as the size may differ considerably. Someone else who has done this on a later model will probably be able to help you further.
Good luck mate! Do let us know how you get on.

Or go for something different. Here’s a photo from my old van. Fitted a mk1 RS console with new gait or with white stitching then fitted a mondeo gear knob with leather top and matching white stitching.

Nice! 8) I want to put the Mk 1 RS center console in mine too. What heater control (dash center surround) have you used there Graham?
