Stripping and repainting connect lights

Postby jay1600e » Sun Jan 14, 2018 8:55 pm

I've seen a few mk1 connects with the headlights done the same as the mk1 st170 focus (black). Has anybody on here stripped the glass of them or are they a of the shelf item. Thanks for looking.

Hi jaye1600e.
I've painted my headlights black, it's easy done and makes a huge difference to the front of the car. If you use a heat gun and gently heat the plastic lens along the glued edges, it separates from the casing. It may need a little help from from a flat screwdriver too. After that, the chromed part almost falls off. I sanded the chromed part using fine grade 3M scotch brite, wiped it clean, used a plastic primer and finally 2 coats of semi gloss black (rattle can)
Good luck :D

I'll ad some pictures asap mate lights look good. I've not put them back in yet. It did take me a while to be fair I didn't want to break a lens.
