Battery drain in cold weather

Postby G.M » Sun Mar 18, 2018 8:48 pm

Whenever the weather turns cold the battery on my 2012 connect drains right down over night to the point not even the central locking works in the morning.

I've bought a new battery and exactly the same happens with that one....In cold spells like this weekend i have to disconnect the negative terminal to guarantee a charged battery in the morning.

Any ideas why or how this happens please guys.

You need to measure the drainage with an ampermeter. A battery does not drain itself just because of cold weather. So it's not a battery issue. You might have something turned on in the car.

........ or you could have a leaky alternator diode  Try unplugging the alternator overnight and see if it still drains.
If it doesn't drain, you'll need to replace the alternator, or fit a new diode pack.
If it does, then you'll need to start pulling fuses to isolate which circuit is causing the problem :|

The puzzling part is it doesn't drain when the weather is mild. I tested the drain and the reading was 0.7 amp, but that was on a mild evening.
