ECU cooling fan fault

Postby markemark74 » Sat Apr 28, 2018 8:40 pm

Hi guys,

After some advice please, if possible.
My transit connect 2015 (old shape) 1.8 tdci is overheating because cooling fan not kicking in.
I had it plugged in today and it came back saying ECU not receiving correct engine temp info.
So ECU is not kicking fan in.

I've already replaced thermostat, cylinder head temp sensor, waterpump & flushed cooling system.

Any help or advice would be great.

Thanks Mark

I have since retrieved the DTC code E199.
From what I have seen I think it’s an intermittent engine temp signal.
Could anyone please tell me if that’s correct & also any help in fixing the problem.
Thanks.

Have you checked out the fan controller :?:

I've had two of these fail, one on a Focus, and one on a Transit, they both had the same part number, so I'm guessing the Connect has the same controller

Thanks Altransit for your reply.
Do you mean the controller in the middle of the two fans on the rad?
Would this cause the fans not to kick in and also give the DTC E199 code on the dash test.
It’s driving me crazy.
Thanks again.

Yes, that's the one, mounted on the rad housing. When they fail the fan doesn't work at all.

I can't help with the DTC because I just power probed mine to find that it was faulty, and the next one I just changed it knowing that they do play up :)

It's just a heads up, and may not be your problem anyway :?

I have now tested it & there is continuety through the module, so im thinking its ok.
Shouldi get continuety through the block connector on the wiring harness either with the ignition on or off?

Would a failing oil temp switch stop the fans working?

I have been told the code is the same as PO199 which is oil temp switch.

Thanks

Its not a controller, its a resistor for low speed, even if it failed the high speed fan would still work.

Best to save you £££'s on a possible head gasket or worse take it somewhere get it plugged in and checked out
