Aircon causing part throttle lurching

Postby highroof » Tue Jul 03, 2018 9:06 pm

Noticed this driving locally a little while ago, but it was a royal PITA on the trip down to Southampton from Newcastle on Friday. It's a recent thing, if I turn it off the van runs fine at any throttle opening, but it's horrible in traffic turned on. Is there something common that causes it?

Is this in sync with the A/C clutch energising or random?

Good question.......I think so. I had a listen to how often the clutch was engaging today, and it seems more frequent than other stuff I've got. There's a fairly loud click every 5 seconds or so. Couple that with the fact that I didn't feel it was doing a great job of cooling me down when I was travelling south on Friday ( very hot day ), and I'm starting to wonder whether a re-gas might be required.

The van's very sporadic on part-throttle, I would have said it matches with what the aircon is doing.

Re-gas is always a good option, just get it done by someone who knows what they're doing i.e full pressure and leak test. My air con is quite taxing on my van when i use it. The pump does cut in and out quite often, but weather i have just got used to it or not, i don't feel much of a throttle issue... May be something unrelated to the A/C that is causing your throttle inaccuracy? TPS ect? Good luck with sorting it mate :)

Cheers. It's definitely aircon related, if I turn it off, the van behaves normally. Plus, it didn't used to do it, it's a recent thing. I would have noticed it before at the distances I have to drive. I can get it re-gassed locally by someone who knows what they're doing, just a matter of catching him at work when I'm not!
