air box

Postby bikermikey » Mon Jul 16, 2018 9:41 pm

hiya

I have an 08 tdci 75ps

got a k&n on the way and will be visiting vantuner soon thereafter. he's recommended i fit the focus airbox if my air box has no cold feed. how can i check this? (whether my current airbox has a cold feed or not..)

many thanks!

waste of money mate, won't make a bit of difference even with a vantuner remap. but b4 the map knock the guts out the cat, clean out the inlet manifold and blank the egr, clean maf and iat sensors and check for any boost leaks and get it serviced using oem oils and filters.........then let martynx play with it, he did mine over 9yr ago and it will be worth it 8)

Focus has an air scoop on the front panel, which connects to the airbox underneath, via a convoluted pipe.

As G-man has said, the scoop and pipework are too small to make any real difference to the air induction. The K&N makes no real difference either, except that it can be cleaned and re-used. I tried all of this in my Focus with the 1.8 TDDi engine.

I drilled a 3 inch hole in the bottom of mine and got a cold air feed going from the lower bumper grill to the hole and fitted a b&m filter, then got a remap by Martin at vantuner, the van pulls hard all the way up to the limit now, I know people have different opinions whether it works or not but the way I see it is the colder the air the better it runs.

Yes, people used to mess around with forced air induction in the days before turbochargers were common. I even tried it on my Mini, but it never seemed to make much difference

And then it goes through an intercooler....in most cases.
