A/C Help - No power to Compressor or Fan. 2011 Connect T230

Postby SamuelDicks » Wed Jul 25, 2018 7:30 pm

Hello Folks

My A/C is not functioning. This has been driving me nuts for the last week and I could really do with some further guidance to save me from the 30 degree heat! This is where I'm at so far and I drive a 2011 Transit Connect Trend T230.

It's been a nightmare from the outset, thanks to the previous owner.

-I have had the system gased and checked for leaks. All ok.

- The cable to the compressor plug was cut through, I've repaired that issue. (Originally I thought this was the problem) however still no power to plug.

- I'v by-passed the pressure sensor just above the accumulater still no power to anything. I do get 5v from one of the pins, this seems to be on regardless if the A/C switch but only when the engine is running

(I can only locate one sensor on the system , I'v searched everywhere and asked my local gargle to look on their diagrams and they could only find one).

- Checked the fan, that was bust so I've fitted a new one. There is also no power to this plug when the AC is on.

- I'v tested all the Relays and fuses , no problem there.

- Tested the A/C on off switch in the van, no problem here.

Have I missed anything? I'm aware that some functions are in the blower motor, I'v got no knowledge on this.

I'd really appreciate some help here, I'll look forward to your responses!

Thanks a bunch,
Sam

Have you tested the compressor :?:

After a lot of fannying around with mine over a couple of years, testing various things and getting nowhere, I finally bit the bullet and had a new compressor fitted, and it's all working fine now.

My son had a new compressor fitted in his Focus just over a year ago (under warranty) to cure his non-working A/C, and has just had to have another fitted at his own cost, as that one had failed as well. It would seem that some of these, are not parts destined for a long life, even though they are stupidly expensive for what they are

Thanks for your reply, glad you got yours fixed. Shame about having to go through two compressors, makes me feel like the compressors are poorly made or something cause that to happen! At least someone has Air Con!

I forgot to mention, yes I’v powered up the Compressor and that works fine.

The fan should run from the minute that the A/C is turned on, so there should be voltage on the fan straight away.
Is there a relay fitted to the fan casing? That part could be U/S and not powering up the fan (as it was on the sons car - didn't sort the problem in his case though)

Finding A/C diagnostic information is like pulling teeth, I found

Air Con diagnostics don’t seem to exist to the public. I could really do with a wiring digram!

There is zero power to the plug for the fan. I’v checked all three of the fan relays + fuses and they are all ok.

Just to add my tuppence worth, my single cooling fan does not come on for a good while when i engage the A/C even when it is 30 degrees outside. It does after that, cut in and out very regularly. Temps are still around 4-5 degrees at the vents, which is perfect. Whether the system on mine is the same as an 11' plate though, i don't 100% know!...

Update, still need some advise!

Checked all Relays they all working.

I'v checked all the Voltages from all the pin slots. I'm getting all good readings of 12v and 0v apart from one of the pin slots which reads 4.5V. I get this reading on one of the pins from A/C and Fan relays. Anyone know why I'm getting 4.5V?

For the life of me I can't find the Low Pressure sensor, Ford tell me I have one. They have given me the part number and Diagram(i'll upload as somebody may find useful). I'v looked bloody everywhere for this sensor, i'v even had the gearbox out last week and still no sight. Somebody please advise me on where i can find the sensor.

In short..
