Transit Connect T230 L90 - EGR

Postby ab20000 » Sat Aug 18, 2018 11:14 am

Had the cog light come on briefly and getting very sluggish performance which points towards an EGR problem. Looking around there seem to be a number of options and opinions so keen to hear what the views are here.

How difficult is it to swap the EGR?
Is it the whole inlet manifold that needs changing?
If so any suggestions where to buy a new unit?
Are there options to clean the EGR? (do this on other car as is super easy)
Any estimates of what a garage would charge for the labour?

Thanks,

What year, and presume it's TDCi? If early TDCi like mine, whole inlet manifold needs changing! :( Ford want silly money as usual!... And the exhaust manifold needs to come of for removal and refit of inlet..

TDDi is the same, sadly :(

It's not that technical to change it yourself, it doesn't need any special spanners, just some small/short ones, 3/8 drive sockets, ideally, small hands/fingers ............................... and a lot of patience (there's one particular nut!!)

Seems to be a pretty poor design not being separate from the inlet manifold or that it can’t be cleaned.

Is a delete mod a bad idea?

Rookie question but will this part not be a bolt on change without having to remove so much stuff or is this not the bit that needs changing?

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3375602153

If not can the inlet manifold be removed and cleaned or is it a new one only?

Thanks,

The actuator motor can cause the light to come on. To change that is a ten minute job, four torx bolts. When I changed the E.G.R. motor my light went out. I then bought a blanking plate and blanked it off.

The light only comes on occasionally and not for long when it does, more concern is how the van drives, it smokes (a lot) on startup and has very low power at low revs. Looks like might be a new inlet manifold unless I can clean the old one?

I would purchase something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Transit-Conn ... SwhjRat5Tb

I would then take the actuator off the one you have just bought, and swap it for the one on yours (ten minute job). See if it has rectified the situation. If not, you will have no option other than exchanging the manifold for the cleaned one you have jut purchased. There is nowt else you can do I'm afraid. Oh, you could go out and buy a new van, just like Ford would want you to.

Haha yeah they'd like that. Can my current inlet manifold be cleaned?

Any idea how long the whole process to remove the inlet manifold and fit a new one takes? Seems like it's a real pain. :?
