Replacing a turbocharger can be a complex job, especially for a beginner. While there are online resources that might offer a guide, here's a breakdown to consider for your 2008 Transit Connect 1.8 TDC:

Safety First: TDI engines involve high pressure and potential hazards. Unless you're very comfortable working on cars, it might be safer to take it to a qualified mechanic.
Expertise Needed: Replacing a turbo involves knowledge of the engine system, removing and reinstalling various components, and proper torquing procedures.
Special Tools: You might need specific tools to access the turbo and complete the job correctly.
Alternatives to Consider:

Mechanic Quote: Getting a quote from a mechanic can help you weigh the cost of professional repair versus the risks of a DIY attempt.
Online Resources: If you're still determined to DIY, be sure to find a reputable guide specific to the 2008 Transit Connect 1.8 TDC turbo replacement. Look for instructions with detailed steps and pictures. Here are some tips for searching online guides:
Search for "2008 Transit Connect 1.8 TDC turbo replacement guide"
Look for guides on websites known for car repair tutorials (avoid random forums)
Read reviews or comments on the guide to see if others found it helpful

I have not done the job ..so no advice ..its stuffed right down the back of engine, crammed into a very tight space. 2008 - so bolts will be rusted solid, studs may snap , nuts will round.
That would be my first thoughts . if you cant cope with or are not prepared for something like that happening - then do not attempt.

oh - don't use 12 sided sockets on bolts like that ...hex only

all the best.mark

As above, space around the turbo is very sparse. It can be done using smaller hand tools, ring and open ended spanners are useful for the really awkward ones, but you still need nimble fingers and a lot of patience.
A small cold chisel, and a hammer can be used carefully on the edge of the nut flats to "shock" any nuts that are tight  Oh, and plenty of anti-seize fluid
