PINPOINT TEST C: POOR ENGINE PERFORMANCE - VEHICLES WITH 75 PS OR 90 PS DIESEL ENGINE
C1 CHECK THE WASTEGATE ACTUATOR CONTROL PIPE FOR BLOCKAGE
1 Remove the wastegate actuator control pipe.
2 Using a hand vacuum/pressure pump connect one end to the wastegate actuator control pipe, operate the hand vacuum/pressure pump and observe the reading.
Is a reading present?
Yes
INSTALL a new wastegate actuator control pipe. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to «C2»..
C2 CHECK THE WASTEGATE ACTUATOR DIAPHRAGM FOR LEAKS
1 Connect one end of the wastegate actuator control pipe to the wastegate actuator.
2 Connect the other end of the wastegate control actuator pipe to a hand vacuum/pressure pump.
3 Operate the hand vacuum/pressure pump and observe the reading.
l Does the pump hold a vacuum?
Yes
Go to «C3»..
No
INSTALL a new turbocharger.For additional information, refer to Turbocharger - Vehicles with 75 PS or 90 PS Diesel Engine in this Section. TEST the system for normal operation.
CHECK THE BOOST PRESSURE
Note:
The boost pressure is factory set and must not be adjusted.
1 Using a boost pressure gauge and a T connector, connect the gauge between the wastegate control actuator and the turbocharger.
2 Start and run the engine until normal operating temperature is achieved.
3 Raise the engine speed to 3000 rpm and observe the reading.
l Is the boost pressure less than 0.5 bar?
Yes

Brakes binding.
Action(s) to take:
CHECK the braking system. For additional information, refer to «Section 206-00».

Vehicle overloaded, or excessive wind resistance (roof racks, towing etc).
Action(s) to take:
ADVISE the customer about the effects of overloading the vehicle and wind resistance on the fuel consumption.

Air cleaner element blocked.
Action(s) to take:
CHECK the air cleaner element for blockage or contamination. REMOVE and visually INSPECT the air cleaner element for blockage. INSTALL a new air cleaner element as necessary. For additional information, refer to «Section 303-12».

Charge air cooler blocked or cracked (if equipped).
Charge air cooler pipes split or cracked (if equipped).
Charge air cooler retaining clips missing or loose (if equipped).

INSPECT for visible signs of damage or blockage. CLEAN, REPAIR or INSTALL new parts as necessary.

CHECK for signs of contamination such as strange odors from the fuel tank.
CHECK for signs of water or petrol in the diesel
If contaminated fuel is found, DRAIN the complete fuel system. FLUSH the fuel system through with clean diesel and INSTALL a new fuel filter. For additional information, refer to «Section 310-00A».
