jaybo wrote:hi. me too having the battery warning light staying on.

the previous owner had a new battery, alternator, belts and starter motor fitted 4 weeks ago because of this problem. he failed to tell me that the battery light still stayed on when i parted with the cash(but thats another story).
any way after trolling through the informative forum found the 'wiring loom fix'. i've duely purchased the loom and fitted it.

BUT THE BL**DY LIGHT IS STILL STAYING ON..............

the battery at rest is stating 12.3v
when cranking it goes down to 11.5v
running at idle 11.96v
running at 2000rpm 11.98v
running at 200rpm withe heater and lights on 11.98v

is this pointing to the replacement alternator being faulty, if not the could anybody point me in the right direction please

cheers
jay

should be around 14v when running give or take a few %.
did you take the guys word for it or did he have service history to prove things were fitted?

Follow the wire from the alternator back up to the top of the radiator and along towards the battery. Underneath the battery tray the loom is fixed to the tray by some little plastic straps. Remove all these and remove black outer and hopefully you should see a break in one of the wires. Common fault.

will do that and let you know..... where does that part of the loom go to...?

also would that give me the low output from the alternator.

the van was also running rough on tick over but since i fitted the new part of the loom that seems to have cured it

just checked continuity back to the fuse box and that is all good down all wires.....

checked the output coming out of the alternator and its 11.79v.... don't know too much about the smart charge system but to me that doesn't sound right. could i have a 'duff' new alternator on. if so what sort of damage am i looking at for a replacement

also how can i clear the fault codes myself

cheers

In my opinion, your alternator is kaput, and the low output voltage will play havoc with the ECU, throwing up all sorts of odd things, including lumpy tickover :?

Certainly sounding like a faulty alternator to me, should be in the mid - late 13's on tickover and charging, may I suggest that you get the battery and the alternator tested professionally just to be 100%.. I've known a dodgy battery make this happen, though TBH the battery is looking good a 12.3v...

Battery should be at least 12.6 volts (2.1 volts per cell) but it may be just low due to the alternator output :?

thats what i thought......

fingers crossed all will be cured witha new alternator.
how do you clear any fault codes off them. is there a sequence like on other makes or is it a visit to the 'stealers'....?

Disconnecting the battery for a short period should reset the fault codes, unless the fault is still there :!: If not, a visit to the dealers may be necessary :(
