This is happening to mine, but it has had new alt and battery replaced 18months ago on warranty. Can anyone post a pic of where I should look to see if wires have corroded please?

Find the small plug on the back of the alt with the 3 wires on it, and trace the loom back from there. As said, it is in a conduit which you need to strip back so you can visually examine the wires. The fault is usually around 150mm back from the alt plug

Oh aye, I see it. looks like it's already been patched with insulation tape a few times. Going to get my mate to test the battery too later on.

Having an issue with the battery light flickering on and off. Have cut back the 3 wire loom for a look but looks in good order but replaced it anyway. Took the van a run but the light did flicker for about ten minutes now it stays off. Was wondering if this is because of the smart charge system is overcharging when
cold ???. Does onybody have a qlue!!!! Please help its driving me nuts.

Some need the 'smart charge fault' DTC cleared before the light will stay out :!:

OK- 54 220 1.8 TDCi. I spent Christmas day repairing the loom (blue wire as everyone has said), and checking conductivity etc. Subsequently spent the last couple of days replacing the alternator (serpentine belt on these things is a SOB) and... PRESTO!!! NO difference at all. I still have battery shaped warning light, battery is not charging at all. Suspicion is that it's an ECU fault, had a friend with a Honda which suffered similarly. Anyone else had the experience of replacing the two likeliest suspects with absolutely no result whatsoever? I am supposed to be commuting to London (150 miles) and back for 13 weeks (including last), so this has come at a REALLY bad time. Much as I hate to say it, as I appreciate the driveability and general construction of Fords, this van is looking like a waste of £3,000, and is eating more money as time goes on. Taking bets on whether or not this POS gets me kicked off my degree. :|

Always a possibility that the new alternator is faulty :?

True that- what does the belt drive besides the alternator and power steering pump? Went out this morning to find the pulley between the crank and the alternator had sheared off during the night, wondering if I can drive to town for baccy & if it'll make MOT on Wednesday with no belt!

New alternator seemed to work-, got 100 miles out of it, figured all was well, left it at train station for 2 weeks, came back and got it, indicators staying on due to cold- then a further 50 miles and it failed again just as I was pulling into my drive yesterday  . Checked loom (as is perfunctory), still fine. Recharged battery from wall AGAIN. Has to be another wire in the harness or the ECU has gone nuts. Can't be bothered to remove the entire wiring harness and test it- going to Ford on Monday with my "fix it or die" face..
