Just had the battery light issue fixed, thankfully was only the shaft that needed changing, but why o why are these parts so expensive? Luckily warranty will cover most of the cost.

sorry to resurrect this long and old thread

transit 2003 200L diesel
intermittent battery warning light - usually when revving/accellerating. Thanks to this forum i discovered the thicker wire had corroded off the back of the plug that goes into the alternator and was (i assume) making an intermittent connection. Pls excuse my temp araldite repair....

I would like to get the plug replaced so am looking either for a new plug and loom, or just the plug with a few inches of wire attached so that i can cut and splice into the existing loom (secondhamd plug maybe). Would anyone know the part number of the actual loom and plug pls, and if possible sell me one? Or a second hand one? Money no object (ish). If local to me in Norwich then they can do it themselves perhaps

update

whilst waiting for my initial post to be approved, i bought a plug and short attached loom from ebay for about £20 - after splicing it in to the existing cable using a choc block the job was sorted. Although initially it didnt because i hadnt realised a 10amp fuse had blown also. Replaced the fuse and everything hunky dory

may help someone with similar problems in the future

I have read whole posts on this thread and what I think this issue is for TC 02-08 .I thought that Ford should addressed the issue and fix it on new facelift 2010 on connect but my 2010 connect is suffering from exactly the same issue as most of you

I replaced the loom but the light still came on for a day or two then sorted itself out, now it's perfect. Thanks

Neilb67 wrote:Follow the wire from the alternator back up to the top of the radiator and along towards the battery. Underneath the battery tray the loom is fixed to the tray by some little plastic straps. Remove all these and remove black outer and hopefully you should see a break in one of the wires. Common fault.

I’m going to follow your advice today as this appears to be the next logical step from what Ive learned so far!. Ive had the alternator reconditioned(apparently factory fitted unit-going to check outputs with 2 separate meters) also replaced the short loom from alternator. While I was doing this I checked the loom(removed black conduit exposing wires) running across the top of the radiator and couldn’t find any faults.
Soon after owning the van 3 months ago, Ive also had issues with disco lights, all interior lights flickering and heater blower surging. The battery light goes off and on regardless of the weather condition(owned van since Oct18) along with the other faults.
At the moment the battery seems to be charging, I’m travelling 50 miles a day with lights on most of the time but the faults are the same. The engine appears to be running okay(ticks over fine) but when electrical surges happen the engine tick over will sometimes surge as well. Is it a good idea to continue driving the van in this condition ?

Also how do i create a signature ?

Cheers

Okay these are the alternator meter readings using two voltmeters(a lead broke on one unit half way through lol)
Here are the readings from the working meter

Van door open engine off 12.4
Van door open. Engine on idle. 13.4 - 15.9
Van door open. Engine idle. Lights low beam. Heater on max. 13.8 - 14.6
Van door open. Engine idle. Lights on high. Heater on max. Screen heater on. 12.4 - 12.8
As above @ 2000 RPM. 12.5 - 15.00

Good morning,

Found out it was the reconditioned alternator that was faulty. Had a new unit fitted at a local garage and everything is fine now. Lesson learned.

Hey guys I seem to have the same problem, done serpentine belt & tensioner Timing belt and tensioner, and water pump also the loom from the alternator, and the battery light still on. Lights are not intermittently dimming anymore all seems fine battery seems to be charging, but the light still on. Any ideas guys before I get the matches out. Thanks
