Re: battery warning light staying on

Hi, ive read this whole post and found it quite helpful!
My battery light started flickering on and off a few days ago, then yesterday all my dash dial turned off a couple of times! This morning i checked my battery and got 12v and turned on i got about 15v i think. I attempted to check the cables that people here have mentioned. I managed to disconnect it from just behind the radiator but couldnt unplug it from the alternator? Is there a certain way to do it as i tried and just couldnt move it. Anyway whilst laying under the van i tried to check the cables and the red one seems to have a nick in it and it seems to have furred up, so im guessing i need the wiring loom thats been already mentioned. I just spoke to ford parts and was told the part i need is 4998243 and costs £23.33. But before i go and buy it i would like to get the existing one off the alternator. So has anyone got a tip on how to do it?
Thanks

If you have an 8mm socket then undo the 3 nuts holding the cover on the back of the alternator and remove it. You can then get to the plug easier..

Is it that hard then surely you can get to it without soldiering or crimping to exiting wires

prob easiest on yer back under van. kwikfarts identified issue on my work connect, said it was common (5 years ago)

easiest fix just cut n rejoin or extend slightly. its when your hammering around, on and off gas over years the flexing stresses wire literally to breaking point

I think you have to splice in that loom, as the one on the van doesn't have another connector at the inner end

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370584781753 ok this is the item number I'm replacing it with on ebay so it's not gonna be a case of plug in and play then. So if it dosent plug in at the alternator end I have to cut the yellow end block off in the pic of the item number above and join the wires. What if the problem is at that connector

The connector is ok at the alternator end, fits straight on, but the other end needs to be spliced into the loom
