Improve my MPG

Postby Steelsey » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:34 pm

Ok, I'm not sure if mine is normal or not but I've got an 03 1.8 TDDi Connect and want to make sure it's doing the most out of the fuel I put in it. Has anyone got any tips to ensure I can get maximum mpg from my van.....Currently I get 300 miles from £40 of diesel!!!

That's about average realy, the reserve light comes on to soon...
If you drive smoother and don't go over 70 it would get you another 100 miles
the red ones go faster...

300 miles from £40 of fuel? My Connect T200 TDCi does about 35mpg round town so you are doing about the same as me. I don't drive fast either but on the motorway I sit at about 80.

simple solutions... same as with every car or van...
remove any luggage or tools that you dont need in the vehicle when not required...
keep the engine oil topped up...
get it serviced every 3-6 months depending on your use...
check your tyre pressures regularly...
try not to speed, or accelerate to quickly/harshly...
Its Not a Van..... Its a Transit

Well yes I guess it is! But less than 10% of my driving is on the motorway and the rest is round town, where I drive within the speed limits and don't accelerate fast etc.

Hi I've got an 03 1.8 TDDi and every 3rd/4th tank fill up I put in a can of STP. This has the advantage of cleaning all the injectors/ pump etc and by driving reservedly your mpg should increase. I never do above 70 and my mpg is hovering around the 40+. There again depends on what goods there are in the van and also tyre pressures and also roof fitments. If you've got stuff on the roof fit a windjammer. Hope this helps a bit.

I wanted a lighter colour but until its invented I'll stick with white!

Ive just come back from up north put £60 in van :o and got 480 miles before light came on
It was really low before i filled up hence £60 journey is A roads and motorways probably averaged 55-60 on A and 70-75 on motorways

I am an Electrician. Pipe tube and ladders on the roof rack all the time, other crap as well from time to time. Back is always full of gear, cable and whatever other clutter accumulates as the week goes by. Drive steady ish, mixed driving get about 35 out of my remapped 1.8 TDDi.

When i boot it, it flies

SAVING FUEL

Try lifting your foot off the gas, when travelling downhill or anytime just tap the pedal as needed to keep your speed up.
be sure to be in as high a gear as possible.
when you lift your foot of the pedal on modern vehicles the fuel is cut to the engine, so no need to coast probably burn more fuel coasting anyway.
also when driving uphill ease your foot off if you dont slow down your wasting fuel.
dont accelerate hard uphill take your time.

£55 is about 47 litres, so about 10 gallons. So you are getting 32mpg. I only get 33-35mpg from my T200 110 TDCi and it's never carrying much weight.
