Technically we did this April 18th at 7:34 am..

Drove off the lot in a new 2015 Ford Transit Connect XL SWB

What are our plans?.. to create a one off mini-mini expedition vehicle.. Currently we're in contact with several expedition outfitters just to see what they have to offer. Stay tuned.. this is going to get crazy.

This will be our rally/off road/camping/travel inspired build. So one might see a dash of this, a sprinkle of that, with a few odd ball items thrown in for good measure. No lift will be involved other than what taller tires may offer us.. but I wouldn't put it past us to see a winch mounted on the front bumper.

How would you attach a winch to a unibody van?

Looking forward to your findings.

Just talked to a friend who bought the new Ranger last year and is planning on replacing it with the Raptor in 3 years, that I'll line up for the Ranger then

Pretty much plug and play, the unit and all the cables are fitted in the passenger side space as there is no air bag that side. The hardest bit was fiddling the cables and connectors behind the stereo. I could have done with removing the radio/heater panel but even with all the screws removed [ that I could find] it still did not want to move forward.
Only thing not screwed down at the moment is the control unit, which is temporarily on a air outlet mount until I can find a neat but visible place on the dash to mount it.

Well finally placed the control above the light switch. A small hole on the edge of the grey panel to allow the cable through, the control is easily reached and readable.

I had 7 & half litres of waxoil left over that I bought for me old van and never used so I thought I may as well use it on the connect

I did get the H.P sprayer with extension tube for getting inside box sections and seals, left it on the hot tin roof :D for a couple of hours to warm up so it sprayed better

Image

got it up on ramp and removed all wheel arch liners, rear bumper and spare wheel

You can see Fords the cheapskates have not put any protection \ seam sealer under the plastic wheel arch liners, did they think the water on a real pissing down with rain day would not get in there.

Image

Bolt here just starting to rust

Image

Made sure I got plenty in the seals, think I might of put a bit to much in there as its dripping out the bottom, I'll leave it a week then make sure all the water drain holes are clear

Image

I hope that should give it a bit of protection for a while
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

Front brakes were squeaking, rear breaks clunking - changed them all round. While that was happening I realised how much i'd neglected my front tyres. Pretty bald  couple of new ones, got the tracking done too and the van feels good as new!
