Lowered my connect.

Postby van mann » Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:08 pm

Having had all the bits for a few weeks now i dicided to start the conversion.
Decided to start with the front.
Focus rs springs, cups, bearings and top mounts with standard connect shocks

Modified and standard shock sise by side.

Took the beam off ,made and welded new brackets into place, exactley 180 degrees from the original.

As the rear is a simple axle flip the common problem is that the rear sits too low when this is done,so dicided to mod the rear spring mounts allowing the rear to be adjusted.Made these 4 bracktes, bolted them together and shaped them all the same
Image
Image
Made a simple jig so they are in the same place when welded to the spring mount

All welded and painted.

Then fitted,as the bracket was 8mm wider i needed a longer bolt.

This is the longer bolt i needed.

Now all fitted, pic shows the original position but i have used the centre hole, could make the van higher by using the bottom hole if carrying something heavy and only takes 5 minutes..

And heres it all finshed.Painted my rims and facelift bumpers so you get the finished article.
Having driven it to Ford fair today it wasn,t as harsh as other cars iv,e lowered.Very happy as all in it,s cost me £80

If i had an unlimited supply of Focus rs springs and rear beams i would do loads of these, but has took me about 6 weeks to source all the parts and do the fabrication.Iv,e used all secondhand parts to keep cost down.

Right I'm going to have a go at doing this. May take me a few months but I have the front set up ready. On the rear axel, just thinking out loud. Would any other rear axel fit, maybe focus? I'm going to try and find one and while im at it, could one with rear discs be fitted instead of drums or would this be a pain in the arse to fit, what would be involved .. Also are they called leaf spring shackels, as I need to get a set to fabricate the drop extender on to..
