Leaking oil filter cap.

Postby transbenny » Wed Nov 29, 2017 3:55 pm

So I took my van in to have a recall done (oil pump, Dec last year) Evans rang me up saying you need this and that, that be hundreds of pounds please. I wasn't happy at all! New sump, new oil filter cap. So I went off and purchased these bits. Evans then fitted them but I now have a leak on the join from oil cap to pump. No point going to Evans as I brought these bits and they fitted when they did the recall..

All the parts where brand new. I've tightened it as much as I can, my question is how the he'll is it leaking. I've just undone it and tightened it up again but Ive not got much hope.

Shall I just buy another cap and see if that's works by swapping them? Oils done less than a 1000 bloody miles.

Cheers chaps.

+1..^^ We've seen this before.

And the pump is actually inside the engine, the sump is removed to get at it, it's not part of the filter housing....maybe your garage damaged the sump trying to remove it??

We've had some sumps that are porous too...not a lot but it does happen.

If it is in the wrong grove note it would be pissing out and not just a slight leak

Yeah, you're right....there's a small hole/slot in the grove above the normal "O" ring groove isn't there..? I think it's there to help drain the cap while removing it.
