Waste water pipe? Or container?

Postby suffolkboi » Sat Apr 06, 2013 9:45 am

Does anybody have a waste water pipe drain straight out of their van?
Im not keen on having a container of dirty water in the van, so i want to run a drian pipe straight out under the van and into a bucket.

Any advice on doing this, best place to cut the van? Im a little limited where to fit the pipe, now ive fitted my litchen unit (see my thread).

Thanks

so long as the waste pipe always has a downward slope the water finds its way out. just check you are not drilling through anything important when making the hole.

I have my waste going through the floor just behind the sliding door where the kitchen is but another length of flexi pipe takes the outfall to inside the back bumper , I can either just let it pour out on the floor if on the road or pop the pipe down and into a waste container on a site.

Mines the same as duvet, just a pipe running out, but could be connected to a container if I wanted.

Duvet did you use the existing hole from the handiwash?

yep....! why drill a new hole when there is one already. I'm still using the handiwash as the sink.
I have flexi tube from that going over the rear axle cable tied to the chassis - about 2 foot too long so its all held up inside the bumper by itself. it does have a small upward bit for the axle and occasionally drips at the join but most of the water gets out the back. (or when the van has a wee as my daughter calls it)

I agree the NR vans have enough holes in them, they don't need more.

I was going to use the Handiwash, but it was to bulky for me, same with the water boiler. but didn't have enough room above the sink for that due to my upper bed

If you are going to have a waste water container then you are going to have to have a trap or the smell will become disgusting.

You can run your pipe, that goes through the floor, into a tank that bolts underneath the van. Any waste water is then outside the van not inside. The underslung tank has a drain outlet with a tap on it so if in a location where you don't want waste water running everywhere, then close the tap. When you get home or somewhere suitable, open the tap and drain the tank.
I leave the tap open all the time unless somewhere where it is not convenient. That way air circulates into the tank and it does not smell. The only time I had a problem was when the tap got bunged up. Make sure water is always running freely through it and you will not have a problem. A once a year clean through of all your pipework and the tank with something like Puriclean is advisable.

Simple and cheap easy to mount solution is to let the waste water into an underfloor convenient length of 8-10" diameter plastic drainage pipe with end caps with an inlet and an outlet tap with a short length of pipe for going into normal bigger removeable waste water carrier so's one can drain into it when outside Harrods whilst pissing in the sink without using the portable carrier..
