Awning Advice

Postby Fearpig » Sun May 12, 2013 6:54 pm

Hello all,
I've recently become the proud owner of a 2003 MWB HiTop 350 and I want to do a few things before our first festival / camping season. The eventual idea is to get it ply-lined / carpeted, lino/wood floor, two ring burner, electric fridge, double bed, bonded window in the sliding door and all the trimmings but as we are pretty skint its a few things at a time.

We can just basically put our camping stuff and a mattress in the van and we're away but the first thing to do is a drive away awning. Having had a quick scout round there are various types of awnings that could possibly fit.

Would we have a J type or a shallow gutter?
Would a figure of 8 attachment work for the top of the awning and how would sides attach?
Can anyone recommend a type/make of awning (around £200!)?
Can anyone tell us types/makes of awning to avoid?

Many thanks in advance!

:) I have a swb high top we bought an outdoor revolution drive away awning using figure of 8 attachment.the sides do not attach you use the cords to pull it close to the motor then peg it.we found it to big for us so we got a different one can't remember name till we get home. The trouble I find these new awnings seem very flimsy first time out ripped the new one. Might sound a bit old school but the old type are more durable. There's a huge choice out there so choose carefully.i personally would not buy another new type. Teepee :) :)

Would an older tent be easier? put it up - with 'verandah' facing the van? then drive away, and zip it up?
thats what we're thinking of doing!
