Hi all i need a mattress and enquired on ebay about a bit of sponge at 165x 165 inches and a quote came back at £95 for 4" thick, thort this was silly money so now need other options or somewhere cheaper for my mattress, and advice please

I think you meant cm not inches? That's not a bad price if it is a good quality, firm foam. I've used http://www.efoam.co.uk/ a few times, very good product and service but slightly dearer than your quote. Was that a delivered price?

Yeah its 5ft5" lol, yeah thats delivered, is 4" ample thickness?

If it is a good quality, firm foam then 4" is plenty good enough, I sleep well on our 3" mattress and I'm 16 stone..

I may contact them and see how much cheaper it is for the 3inch then as im 15st so should be ok for me too, it should be ok for my 9st missus and 3 year old aswell will it??

Just make sure it is a proper firm foam, if it is medium then 3" won't do it.

we just bought 2x proper spring mattresses for £22.0 each they are fantastic.!
next day delivery was £10.00

You can either buy a 'shorty' mattress at 175mm x 750mm (69" x 30" ) or you can buy a full length version 183mm x 750mm
Thats more comfortable, harder wearing and much cheaper than foam

The problem with foam is its rather firm to lie on otherwise it would simply squash flat under your weight. If you have any kind of back problem I wouldn't recommend foam like the typical caravan foam seats .

There is a company on ebay that will make you a proper pocket sprung mattress to your exact shape and size for £40 (cheaper than that £90 bit of foam.... which you have still got to cover with scrim and material etc)

I've had back trouble for years and I can definately tell you that a cheap sprung mattress is far inferior to kip on than a good firm foam. Thats why my sprung mattress at home cost £1400...

I expect you will find that everyones back problems and their sleeping solutions are all different

I have found that I can only sleep comfortably on a very cheap soft sprung mattress on top of a firm orthopedic mattress . I weigh 18 stone .

I believe that many people with different back problems find ,like you, that a firm bed is more supportive and comfortable.

just wanted to provide some feedback on the extraordinarily cheap mattresses we bought for our campervan .

We have just returned from a 5x day stay in Snowdonia and both of us had the best sleep we have had all year . We slept from 11pm through to 9.30am which is unheard of for us and I slept through the night for 7x straight hours without waking. !

I found the mattress slightly on the softer side of medium but bear in mind that I am 6'0" foot and 18 stone ! it bore my weight perfectly.

Because of my size I have increased the bed/seat base width to 30" on either side of the campervan and fortunately the internal layout allows us to keep both beds permanently up which is perfect for the mattresses and gives us huge amount of storage under too. I can thoroughly recommend these mattresses and for £22.50 how could you go wrong ? they could always double as beds for the spare room or kids when not touring.
