Foster and Day Motorhome

Postby geordiewal » Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:44 am

Hi All, I have just bought a Ford Transit Foster and Day Motorhome which is based on a Ford Transit 2.5 TD 190 Trader, 92 chasis. can anyone tell me what or where I can find out more info about the engine, as I dont think the turbo is working so I want to find out how it works. I am also after 2 new rear light clusters, will these be ford parts from the original chassis or will they be caravan parts? Any help where I can obtain the lights from would be really appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi, don't really know what type of lights you have on your motor home, if you post pics we may have a better idea.

You can do a quick forum search on your problems and see if anything pops up. I would imagine most 92 spec Transit problems have at one time or another been sorted on the forum. Or there are help sections you can post specific technical problems on and then wait for answers.

Hope this helps.

I have also tried to add a phot but haven't sussed out how too. Looks like I may have to bite the bullet and visit a Ford main dealers, I can hear my wallet groaning already. :x

I don't think your lights are Ford units :?: Is your turbo engine an epic :?: Does it have a red engine management light below the speedo :?:

At a guess "80's" VW LT35 Cab/Chassis version.

Hi, sorry about the slow response from the forum, i think people are 'out an about' enjoying the sun..... 8) ...

You can get brand new 91-94 Chassis Cab Transit rear light clusters from Beavers.. Bound to be cheaper than Ford's.

http://bap.dominohosting.biz/members/ba ... 8/91-08/94)

Its just a shame they don't have a photo of the lights to make sure they are the ones you need. I'm sure someone with a chassis cab of that age can tell if your lights are fords. But they do seam a bit too curved 'of the top of my head' to be Ford so they will probably come from a commercial rear lights dealer.

Like HGV Direct.

Hope this helps for the moment.

The lights are manufactured by HELLA : Epic, sorry not a clue: No, it doesn't have a red engine management light below the speedo, not even sure if it has any engine management. I could really do with finding out exactly what engine it is and learning something about it.

Are you sure its a turbo (might sound daft but lots of people say they are when they arnt)

Whats the reg no? We should be able to look up the spec.

All factory turbos from '91 onwards have electronic engine management unless its been converted to a mechanical system by a previous owner

I've just looked through the paperwork and I have the order form from Foster and Day, when the conversion was carried out in 96, there is a charge of £800 for 50% of new turbo engine. I will take a couple of phots in the morning and post them. Thanks all for your assistance, smashing website.

I wonder if Foster and Day had fitted a Turbo conversion when building up the motorhome in the first place in 92 and they had to re-build it in 96. Or was it just a Turbo upgrade in 96.

And of course what sort of after market Turbo system have they fitted?...

Yeah, i think we need some pics Geordiewal, sounds interesting...
