Expanding foam filler, is it OK to use in a Campervan

Postby paulrichardson » Sun Jun 24, 2012 6:16 pm

Hi Guys,

I have insulated under my ply floor, but because I re-used the floor that was already fitted I have some gaps in corners etc.

I bought a can of Expanding foam "Big Gap" filler.

Just wanted to check that I am OK to use this in my van.

It's not going to "attack" my paintwork or anything?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Paul.

it may well hold moisture against hard to reach areas of panels and is super toxic when burning so beware!

awesome stuff tho if not messy!

I've just removed a whole load of his from the headlining of my County, it a pure B******* to get off!

Definitely holds the moisture in, a lot of mine was quite badly rusted behind it

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your comments (although I'm not sure how we got on to setting fire to Speed Cameras).

I think the concensus is - I won't use the Expanding Foam spray stuff.

My new question is "What can I use instead".

I think the gaps are too big for Sikaflex.

What about "polyfiller" type stuff?

Regards,

Paul

needs to be sealed water tight then maybee insulation or vapour barrier then insulation.

foil type bubblewrap is good stuff

I would also suggest the foil bubble wrap, it can be pushed into tight spaces

admittedly i just used recycled glass loft rolls stuffed behind the ply walls. kept us toasty at north weald, had to keep rear door ajar even with roof vent(fkin noisy thing- if fit one, jam it up at night or it sounds like an animal humping on your roof )
i just used a minibus rear head-liner for the roof , does the job but poss not in midst of winter!
