Fridge not in ideal place

Postby Neilg7777 » Sun Aug 12, 2012 8:02 pm

Hi all looking to fit a 3 way fridge in my van the only problem is it will not be going against a side wall. I have read I will need to vent the fridge for circulation which I could do through back door. Could I vent the flu fumes through the side wall if I extend the pipe. Sorry trying hard to explain. In the pic I want to put the fridge where the gas bottle is do u think it is possible

Thanks Neil

If you want to use a 3 way fridge it really needs the rear to be against an external wall , never seen one vented any other way.The fridge enclosure should be sealed from the living accommodation, so that the burners flue cannot leak into the living accommodation. The sealed part should also have a gas drop out (hole in the floor) under the burner.
Worst case if the burners flue does not vent properly then everyone in the van dies from carbon monoxide!!! , is it worth the risk ?

12V Compressor fridges are expensive , but what price on life ?

or cant you swap the fridge location with the water carriers ?

Thanks for your reply, just done a lot of reading and yes it's not worth it. Think I will just run with 240v untill I get the urge to do the interia again.
Thanks

The natural place for a fridge is where you have the plates cupboard which should end up leaving space for a smaller cupboard for pots/pans imho, the plates could go in a rack above the work-surface above the fridge as high as possible.

I've seen a Mk5 Reimo(?) conversion where the fridge was in the middle of the rear doors and vented across and out of the rear side panel. Carbon monoxide is lighter than air so as long as the flue is raised and there are no leaks it would work fine. That said, I would still put the fridge on a side wall... A good quality CO alarm is a must if you use any gas in a van.
