Hello all, I'm new to Transit ownership.

Got myself an E reg 2.5 Diesel Transit 190 Beavertail..... very used!

Some kind soul has replaced the front end for the newer type with the 'smiley' face. A hole in the drivers step will need filling come next MOT time, but for £950, shes dragged a few cars to their end already, and I've had her less than a month.

Must admit, I'm more Vauxhall orientated, but spares for Bedford CF's are non existent, and besides, if anything goes wrong with my Transit, then it 'should' be cheap to fix.

Its got its fair share of problems, mostly electrical. Leave your foot on the brake and switch off the engine..... and it keeps running!

Put your foot on the brake, and the dashboard lights up!

Alternator is on its way out, stick on the wipers and you get a dim battery light, chuck on the heater and its glowing like a good un!

It doesn't like hills too much, especially with a big lump like a Citroen XM perched on the back!

But other than that.... its alright really! ;)

Back again, new truck

Postby Galahad » Tue May 23, 2006 12:54 pm

Unfortunately I killed my last Transit. In fact I'd killed it months before but didn't realise it.

It broke its back!

All that was holding it together was the body on the back and the propshaft!

A scrapyard in Portland gave me £250 for her and apparently shes going back on the road.

So, I had no intention of EVER buying another Transit (in part because certain engine parts were difficult to get a hold of and because it snapped in half!), and what do I go and buy? Another one.

J reg this time, only just done 100,000 miles with the common as muck Transit engine, good condition, and best of all, its been built by an engineer so the chassis is proper strengthend. She hardly moves when you chuck a car on the back, and she doesn't care which way round the car is (previous truck, engine end of car had to be facing toward the cab), and with a trailer she will take two cars to their deaths very nicely.... though again, hills are not liked!

2500 Superwinch on the back, only problem is that the floor of the beavertail is made of plywood that needs covering with chequer plate, and the ramps to the beavertail are too steep, so I need to get a set of ramps made up.

Other than that.... I'm back to the fold! :)

Even if you don't need it, grab it.
