Whale pump alternatives?

Postby suffolkboi » Thu Apr 18, 2013 10:19 pm

Im looking at alternative to the standard submersable pump, mainly due to easy of empty/filling my container.
Id like just a single pipe going into the clean water bottle, and the pump outside the container.

Ideally a self priming pump would be good, but i want a spare, so it will get a bit pricy buying two.

Can i use a Whale type pump out of water?

What would be wrong with a £5 windscreen washer pump?

Windscreen washer pump would be fine.
If you only want to wash your windows.!!!
I have a self priming pump in mine with a permanent 12v supply.
Shurflo 7 Ltr Trailking 20psi 12V Pump.
They are on eBay for £80 but well worth it.
Great pressure as I have an external shower.

Yeh - the washer pump was a little toungue in cheek..

Actually looked at a sumbersable pump today - and discovered why they wont work out of water..

It would seem i need an inline pump of sorts.

washer pump was what we had fitted in our first van...worked quite well... noisy but served it's purpose...

Glad to hear you managed with a washer pump :D

I decided on a submersible in the end - gone for a Reich Easy 12v pump - 14liters p/min.

Cheapest one on ebay, as of last week..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330804170404? ... 1439.l2649

The Reich ones do 14ltrs /min where as the the Whale are only 10.5 or thereabouts.

Got some of this to go with it
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380558137013? ... 1439.l2649

And one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161001962298? ... 1439.l2649

Damn the internet is useful.
