sitdownsurfers Connect Camper

Postby sitdownsurfer » Sat Feb 22, 2014 11:09 pm

So I have been doing this for a while now, and I thought I should add some photos with a little description next to them all...

I am making a campervan out of my lwb connect.

First off was the Soundproofing:

Image

I used Flashbanding, available from DIY hardware stores.

Next I used Bubble wrap insulation for more insulation, 3 layers on the floor. And 2 on the walls.
I then used 25mm Celutex for the larger panel gaps, and stripped plastic bottle insulation for stuffing in all the gaps:

I used 2 layers of bubble wrap (1 each side) of 25mm celutex for the roof.

Next I made a sliding bed:

Today I built the unit for the cooker and sink. Which sits at the same level as the bed, so with a board over the top, its part of the bed! Clever ay? ;)

Ive still got to plumb it in, and gas it up. Oh and fit my lights, vinyl, carpet etc. But its beginning to take shape!

Oh and I need my windows put in :D

Im happy to hear your feedback!

Oh yeah, 18mm ply on the floor, 6 on the walls and 12mm for the bed :D

A local camper conversion specialist has said its the most insulated van he's ever seen :D :D

Good job so far, like the idea of the slide out bed. How long is the bed going to be? Always wondered how snug it would in a connect for someone 6foot+

Thanks,

The bed itself is 6ft, the top panel is 6'2" so as long as I can go really! Haha. I'm 6'2" so yeah its a squeeze, but who sleeps dead straight anyway???

Good Job.
I've done a similar thing to my connect, also fitted a Webasto heater, which runs off the vans fuel tank.Expensive but worth it .

Excellent job there and more insulated than my Connect (damn!). You'll notice a big reduction in road noise as well with the anti-drum, it's made mine far more civilised on the motorway. I did fit an Eberspacher diesel heater in mine as well, really useful for warming van on cold mornings before setting off.

Yeah insulation makes a massive improvement! :) got to say I'm pretty chuffed with it at the moment!

I've cut my foam for the bed as well now, so I can show you lot how it looks with it fully folded out. Will do that when I get a free moment this week :)

Some scary hole cutting over the weekend;

Hole for the table leg, where I wanted it was right over the fuel tank :/ some careful hole markings and it all went smoothly:

And the holes for sink waste and gas drop hole:
