Eberspacher fitting under van

Postby shaun23 » Sun Sep 13, 2015 10:39 pm

Picked up an eberspacher D2 off ebay last week, comes with loom, pump and thermostat and a small length of fuel pipe which is great. :)

I often change the internal layout of the van, so don't want to be drilling large holes in the floor, and to keep it quiet I'd like to mount it under the van. Has anyone done this before? If you have any pictures would be great.

Eberspacher say to protect it from splashes, so I was thinking of fabricating a bracket and mounting it on its side somewhere under the van, and putting some form of shielding around it.
I've also heard that a fuel cut off switch is a good idea, so I was thinking just an in-line valve as close to the diesel tank as accessible.

I got a heater of a scap transit ex Police it was mounted underneath inside a metal box, I am planning on putting it underneath my new van when I get it and start the conversion. Sorry no pictures of it installed. I have found a link to a box, mine also had a top panel.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBERSPACHER-W ... 2a57d9b62d

Thanks redsquirrel. I made a quick template today from some ply to figure out where it was going.
There's a nice gap just in from the passenger footwell.
I'm going to speak to the fabricators at work and see if I can get something made up.
Had a good test run today at least, took a while for it to get fuel through but gets nice and hot. Now where to put the outlets is the big question?

For future reference anyone looking to fit a fuel line into the diesel tank. The BEMM (Body and Equipment Mounting Manual) shows that there is an auxiliary fuel port on all mk7 tanks, and there is a quick connector to go onto it. I enquired with my dealer today and we found it - although non in UK stock so it would be 5-7 days delivery from Germany. £32 inc vat isnt cheap for a bit of pipe and a connector though.

Take a look at this link, BUTLER TECHNIK sell the eberspacher kit ( I am sure the parts will be exactly the same ) I installed it on my Mk7 Transit, very quick and easy to install.
http://sales.butlertechnik.com/eberspacher-heater-ford-transit-fuel-tank-pick-up A little over half of Fords price at £18.32 !

My fun bus has an Eber D4 installed below the floor with just the air duct and heat duct coming into the vehicle.
The air inlet and exhaust are just fitted straight to the bottom of the unit

Update time...

Ford fuel hose with quick clip arrived so lowered the tank on Sunday and fitted this yet no fuel to the heater unit.
Sucked on the tube and only get air coming through
Looking at the top right image of the bemm there is another hose which pushes into the auxiliary fuel port and acts as a pickup.
So why do ford not fit a pickup inside the fuel tank?
The parts man is on holiday and the cover guy doesn't know what the bemm was

My 2002 and 2012 both had pickup tube inserted from the factory.
Unfortunately my new 2015 doesn´t have.
I´m going to lower fuel tank next week to complete fuel supply line ....

My fuel line is ready for the heater's installation :D
It was pleasant work except for the cut of the fuel port where accurancy is very important (Ford says) - 19,64 mm (+- 0,12 mm) is needed for my van .

Thanks Rasu. Got mine in today eventually. :)
I had cut slightly more off the port than it says, probably another 2-3mm, as I assumed it already had a pickup pipe inside so cut a bit more when nothing came through. Still, it sealed up and fuel is now coming through to the heater. No sign of leaks.
I haven't put the tank back up yet but had the heater running a while to test it out. Providing the weather is OK i need to raise the tank tomorrow :(

You are welcome Shaun23 :) .

I´m still not decided where to place heater, therefore fuel tank was returned back to original it's position before tests.
This weekend plan to make a decesion and order complete heating system on Monday.
If I woud have a heater with me, of cause, I would try if fuel line has no leaks and everything works.
