Heres a few pics of my camper conversion of a 1968 german fire van, body wise ive had the o/side wing and rear arches sprayed, otherwise its original paint, polished with cif 1st,then some wax.
Inside ive left it original from bulkhead forward, the rear was empty apart from rear facing fold down seat, thermal lined it with "lowE"insulation(damp, mould proof, easy to work, and really does work),then made up ply side panels, covered in grey vinyl, made headlining panels in white foam backed vinyl, covered floor in more lowE,and then put 15mm marine ply on top.,
Because id decided to keep outside as fire van, wanted back conversion to follow this theme,so units ive made and floor ive covered in checker plate lino, its worked well, adds to insulation, and easy to keep clean(vans used for me and three bulldogs).
Table top drops to become part of bed base,240v hookup under van next to spare, consumer unit in cupboard below sink/hob,together with second battery,1500w inverter, gas and water. All other units are just storage space, fridge is 3 way,but not connected to gas(dont want vents in body work).
So far its all worked well, its been lived in for a good few months, the layout works well for me,ive made covers for all the widowsout of same insulation, just attatch with velcro tabs, with these in place vans cool inside in hot, warm in cold.
Mechanically its all standard, ive cleaned it all up,added trims to original wheels, painted drums/ hubs(black bumpers/wheels look to drab to me,added spotlights, fitted wheel arch liners in ally, rear mudflaps, added these to keep underside as good as it is,arches still have paint on them, the chassis and floor still grey with no rust anywhere.
Had 14k km when i got it,now its on 26k.

Unstealthy stealth conversion

Postby bulls in transit » Sat Dec 09, 2017 3:10 pm

Been a while since last looked at thread, vans been off the road for a while due to getting it re-registered here in Spain(got historic reg here now, took months and months, had to return van to as got virtually),so here’s some pics of it’s last days with a UK plate changing steering linkage ball joint(popped on wobble plate at ITV,1st fail since I’ve had van) and starting to put back arch liners and interior, looking at previous photos looks like nothing much has changed, but now all the ‘get round to’ stuff been done,so balljoint on,ITV pass,Spanish Historic plates next week...ImageImage

Last time it’s up in the air with these plates!

Thanks, light and that don’t work, relay box for blues and twos was already gone from van before I got it,would of had to be disconnected for historical inspection anyway here (had to show guy wire from light went nowhere physically, lucky the end just by zip in headlining),but now they’ve got to be on van for each following ITV here,so it matches their pics of van.
