campervan conversion Australian style

Postby 4x4 tranny » Tue Jan 12, 2016 9:00 am

Hi guys' First post, hope you guys might be interested in what I am dong to an old mk 6 2003 transit here in Australia. If you don't mind ill give you a bit of a back ground to put you in the picture,
advertised for a van on gumtree looking for just a shell as had big idea on what i wanted to do to it,
after some weeks got a ring from a place called McKay dud gear box but body ok, so after ringing and getting some pics sent all nook reasonable, so tried to get it transported home just over a 1000 ks from where i live.
price was excessive to what I was intending to pay for it, so chucked tool box ropes chains jack and anything else i could think of in my trustie Tarago converted camper van with mate and headed off.
12 hrs later here it was sitting in drive way and to my shock it was covered in dents which didn't show in pics as it had been a courier van and dent every where two large ones in doors front roof panel had been pushed in the pushed out and was stretched to hell (Sorry was a LWB HI roof)
rubber was near new glass all in tack drivers seat buggered belts good 165000 clicks on clock so guy started it and sweet she was a jem in the motor new pump injectors starter and the list just went on, guy said take for drive mmmmmmmmmmmmm stuffed gear box so hooked her and away mmmmmmmmmmmm ok so it drives even changed gear funny that but no selection on wheel.
ok back talked money and guess what I owned it.1800 bucks same goody about 8/10 grand yards
so off to servo filled her diesel and gone 6pm home we go 3600 rpm and she jumped into top gear and werrrr offf dark feel and we are cranking at 120 clicks Tarago chasing.
3am hauled over for a bite hang sheriff and hit the road again so gave her a push and yep 140 and( still felt it would go further) on clock so we are cranking along.
home walked round and though what the hell have a I bought dents in every panel ok a few hrs here and there it started to take shape.
now that was 8 months ago so now have started conversion.
so now have cut out panel behind B pillar and fitted a slide out just about done.
welded back doors together and fitting another slide out.
have fitted swivel seat to front.
gathered all contents for inside.
now waiting for final parts so can make pods for slide outs.
so if you guys interested in some pics, ill try and post a couple but u'll have to be patient as im not very computer savy
hope I Havant bored you gays to death, have been checking on some of the 4x4 conversions, if money and time allowed this might happen. cheaper than a Merc I hope
