Catmankevs camper conversion.

Postby Catmankev » Sun Jan 24, 2016 7:01 pm

Hi I picked up a 52reg lwb last weekend 180k,very well maintained with over 3k spent on it last year for fuel pump, injectors, and its cleaner then I ever thought it would be for the £800 I paid for it.

I took a few crappy photos today but will get some better ones next weekend.

It drives really well and not too much of the r word. Mot in 2weeks. Once that's one the build will begin. I work away from home often so when convenient i plan to live in this so I've got to make it comfortable to live with. Also I do a lot of mountain biking so need a garage area in the back under my bed. Wood burner, cooker and sink are also on the list of things to do. I have a 3/4 month build time and will be making up the design as I go along.

I put some foil faced bubble wrap insulation in today along with some used laminate flooring on top of some more foiled faced polystyrene insulation but the flooring is going to be getting replaced with something better as its warped and not fitting together as it should.

Today I have mostly been sticking sheep's will to the roof. I have 2sheets of 8x4ply ready to screw to the ceiling via battons once I find a friend to give me a hand.

No photos today but I have finally got the first sheet of 8 x4 ply fixed to the roof. The rest will be easy now I've got a bit of time to get it done in the evening's

Mot ended up costing me £400+ for brakes and few little bits to get sorted but still for £1200ish so far its gone well.

First long drive in it this weekend from Harwich to rogate so will see what its like.

I bought one can of carpet glue from b&q and still have loads left. Although If I was to do it again I would glue it to the ply instead of the metal to keep it cleen.

These last 2 weekends I've be been very busy getting the van ready for the bank holiday weekend when me and 3 others are off to climb snowdon. I have got a partition wall to keep dirty stuff at the back, carpet on the floor and on partition wall, sofa bed, and curtains behind the seats. This will have to do for now as out of time but more ideas will come in time. Really happy with how cosy its getting now.

The partition wall has a small hinged panel to allow access to the rear if required

Sorry for the terrible photo but only had my crappy phone camera to hand before it got too dark. Next weekend there will be much better photos of it actually in use. :D

this update as been a long time coming and not much has changed really yet, im currently living in it 4 nights a week on a building site near reading and it only really gets a bit too chilly when the temperature drops below 5 degrees, but 15 mins with the engine running and heaters on full soon sorts that out.

Early next year i will be fitting side windows (at last) and looking at fitting a heater of some description along with a roof rack to transport kayaks on.

so far so good :D
