Recommended Transit Conversion Specialists

Postby Mr.D » Fri Dec 02, 2016 5:46 pm

Hi

I've just registered on the forum as I've had a Transit for about 4 months now - loving the van and wondering why I never got one before!

Anyway, I've a 2010 SWB Mid Top T280 and I would like to get some side windows, new carpeted lining and a fully legal 3 seat (with belts) rock and roll bed installed in the back.

Can anybody recommend any companies that could do this whilst keeping my insurance company happy. My 2 young children would potentially be sitting in the back also, so I want to feel happy that it's as safe as it can be.

Thanks,
Mr.D

Whereabouts are you? That would help. 8)

There are dozens of converters up and down the country that will happily work on a VW Conformer, but not many that are willing to work on other vans.
The parts and fittings are so easily available for VWs and the demand for their services is so high, that most of them just don't want to be bothered with anything else.

I rang or emailed quite a few local converters about fitting windows in my Transit and they all told me straight out they only do VWs.
Also, you will probably find that most companies will only be willing to do a complete (therefore BIG bucks) conversion for you - they are just not interested in odd-job work.

I'd recommend Vanbond.co.uk for your windows, as Chris will travel to you. He did a great job on mine.

I'm in Oxford but I don't mind taking the van anywhere. Yep, it seems to me that most parts and companies are interested in vw

I dont know if it will help but Unwin safety:

https://unwinsafety.com/shop/index.php/camper-van.html

supply fittings that appear to be Universal, they may also be able to recommend someone to fit them for you. I understand their system is universal. Take a look and see what they say. I made a half hearted attempt to contact them a while ago and got no response but will need to follow up with them sooner rather than later.

Cheers

I have a fantastic conversion on my Mk7 MWB by Roadshak Campers, they have a webpage but it's static, give them a call, a motorhome dealer commented on how well everything was done.
